Path to Arish Mell

During his early childhood John Warren lived at Sea Barn, Lulworth Castle. The picture below shows what the area looked like at the time. Sea Barn is long gone and the land where it stood is now part of the Lulworth Army Ranges but there is a footpath from Lulworth to Arish Mell that passes the spot. The footpath is only accessible when the Lulworth Range Walks are open. The Cove itself is permanently closed because of the danger of unexploded ordinance.

To take the path down to Arish Mell from East Lulworth park in the Pay and Display car park at Lulworth Castle and walk back to the road. Turn right and in a short distance you will see the fingerpost for the footpath on the opposite side of the road. The path crosses fields which can be wet and muddy so suitable footwear is essential. The photographs that follow are a pictorial record of a walk taken on 15 October 2023.

This is the view from the gap back towards the castle. Today the castle is pretty much obscured by trees but you can just see the top of it on the skyline.
